Writer and Polisher Christie was surprised this morning to receive a gift of a tee-shirt, bearing the legend at left. Our friend, Kathy Novak at ReMax Newport Realty is a fellow grammarista, and was so tickled by this that she had to share it! She had our mutual pals at Sign Shop of Racine (as you can see -- they do shirts, too!) make it up and brought it to our networking meeting earlier today. And, Christie has been wearing it and grinning ever since! Thanks, Kathy!

3/5/2012 0 Comments Self-Evident Language Humor'I' before 'E' except after 'C' ~ Weird! That's rather it in a nutshell. English is a peculiar language of rules and exceptions and exceptions-to-the-exceptions. Ours is a language that's adopted words from more directions (and other languages) than can be counted, and we've no Ultimate Authority that acts to control the result. It's enchanting and confounding. We at Write and Polish enjoy it for it's very madness, but understand that it makes many want to throw their hands in the air in despair! 2/10/2012 0 Comments Ever Wonder About the Thesaurus?Linguistically entertaining article for a Monday Morning -- Merriam-Webster's Top 10 Charming Words for Nasty People...cad, rapscallion, scalawag, and more! 10/24/2011 0 Comments Best Twitter Meme EVER!Literary humor from Twitter -- At W&P, we love some literary humor...and this had us crying with laughter!
Background: Write and Polish recently established a Twitter account (@WriteandPolish), and so found some interesting people to follow, including Salman Rushdie. Who, it turns out, tweets like a fiend. Plus, if you didn't know, he's a genius. Rushdie offered this challenge, for titles that are almost-but-not-quite great, seeded with ideas like "To Kill a Hummingbird" and "Snag-22". His followers have responded in kind! And many of them are quite clever...check them out. |
